Client closet after initial work with Life in Place -- finished product coming soon!
The client was feeling overwhelmed by the amount of items she owned and was convinced that she did not have sufficient space to hang everything. After we worked together to thin her collection, creating large piles of clothing for Goodwill or to sell, we found that she had ample space to keep everything hung up, put away, and off the floor. We are still working to add the best storage solutions for non-hanging items, such as T-shirts and belts.

These clients are avid travelers, so have guidebooks, brochures, maps, etc. from all over the world. They were trying to stay organized by storing all these items in one place, but as you can see, the shelf had become overwhelmed by the volume and range of materials.
First, we took off all of the books, cleaned the shelves, and recycled or donated out-of-date or otherwise no longer wanted titles. I then separated all items that were not books (brochures, maps, etc.), sorted them by country, and placed them in file folders. I then filed these folders, by region, into file boxes. The books were returned to the shelves, also organized by country and region.
Both clients have recently retired, so had cleared out years' worth of keepsakes from their offices. We decorated these travel bookshelves with many of those keepsakes, per the clients' wishes, to keep the memories of gift givers, favorite destinations, and future travel dreams bright and alive.
